Been travelling 2 weeks now, and I have been posting to the Gibbs family private blog. I did do a blog posting on ExperienceLA about Paris going green. While in Paris I stumbled upon this 100 year anniversary trip of Fiat winning the Paris to Peking Road trip. They are recreating it, and there was a press conference today. I think they thought I was part of the press. I have 3 pictures posted up on Flickr.

Off the Queen Mary 2 and Into London
Karen andI made it off the QM2 early this morning and caught the 9 am train to London from Southampton. By choosing to carry off our own bags, we were able to leave the ship at any time, rather than having to wait until 10:30 am for our assigned deboarding.
I have one picture on Karen's camera of the QM2 on the dock at Southampton which I took from the taxi on the way to the Southampton train station. We rode a new train into London Waterloo Station which took around 1 hour 20 minutes. From there we rode the tube out to East London to our trendy Hoxton Hotel, but we choose the wrong tube station, as it was closed for repair causing us to go to another one. Then rode in one of the classic London cabs for the short distance to the hotel.
The picture above is of me relaxing on the first day out on the Queen Mary 2, one of only a couple days of sunny weather. However, the seas were flat.

Half Way Across the Big Pond
The wine menu for the ship has only one Rose available. We had an interesting conversatin with the head sommelier for the Brittania Restaurant about the lack of Rose on the menu. He said that he would love to have more, but the passengers are still buying White Zinfandel (two bottles on the menu). The one Rose that is available is a Sancerre Rose. The real issue is that they need to buy 50,000 bottles and trying to find such a producer is difficult. He recommended that we try the Syrah from Washington.
On the Thursday leaving the States, the LA Times ran a story on Randy Kemner and the Wine Country in Signal Hill. It talked about how Rose are increaing in popularity. I've made a copy for the QM2.

Blogging on the Queen Mary 2
This is day 3 (but the second full day) on the Queen Mary 2 as we sail from NYC to Southampton. I now know why so few have blogged about the experience. It's the cost of Internet access at 50 cents a minute or a little less if you buy a package. One disappointment is that I can't use my Nokia 770 Internet tablet, as they don't support hand held devices. there is WiFi, but just for notebook computers. Also, I can't upload a any pictures, since they don't provide access to a USB port. I am sure it is for security reasons.
My wife and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on this trip, and thus we were serenaded last night at dinner.
